In the summer of 1986 I received
a letter from the secretary of the Kirkcaldy & District Canine
Society in Scotland inviting me to judge Terriers at their Open
Show in the following May. I accepted this, my first judging appointment
with alacrity, feeling very honoured to be invited. It is only
looking back now that I realise the enormity of my decision. Here
I was, on no breed club judging lists, never having judged at a
dog show before, not even having stewarded, taking on all the scheduled
terrier breeds and the Terrier Group.
