Auchentoshan (Haggis) and his litter sister,
Kinclaith (Tigga) were by Knockando of Baillieswells out of Loiriston
Mear of Baillieswells, and were born on 10th March 1990.
Auchentoshan and Kinclaith are both named after single malts. When
they were first shown, Tigga regularly outshone her brother, winning
minor puppy bitch at her first three championship shows at the age
of six months. the best Haggis could do was a second. One weekend
Tigga was best puppy in show at the Scottish Border Terrier Club’s
limit show judged by Trak Fryer (Irton) and at the Bon Accord All
Breed Open Show.
However at the Border Terrier Club’s Open
Show at Jedburgh in February 1991, Haggis, who was best puppy dog,
beat Tigga, best puppy bitch, for Best Puppy in Show under Leslie
Gosling (Akenside). From then on his career flourished.
Because of
the difficulties of getting to major shows from Aberdeen, Haggis
moved to Gloucestershire to Peter and Maureen Thompson (Thoraldby)
and they campaigned him to his title. He received his first CC from
Betty Judge (Plushcourt) at Paignton in August 1991, and on the same
day his Junior Warrant. In 1992 his second CC came from Betty Rumsam
(Wilderscot) at Richmond, and in 1993 his third from Sam Mitchell
(Kelgram) at Bournemouth. In the autumn of 1993, he moved to Sweden
to Carl Gunnar Stafberg (Bombax) where he soon obtained his Swedish
and Norwegian crowns.
Haggis sired two champions, Brehill Gloster
Girl and Wintergarden Rhapsody at Tythrop, as well as several CC
and RCC winners in the UK, and a further nine champions in Scandinavia.
Tigga
has had several litters of puppies. Out of a litter by Baillieswells
Dallas Dhu, Baillieswells Royal Brackla went to Queen Beatrix of
the Netherlands, and Baillieswells Glenury Royal to Princess Margriet
of the Netherlands.
